8 must-see events for Modernism Week 2022 in Palm Springs


It’s almost that time of year to celebrate mid-century architecture and design to Modernism week, held in Palm Springs February 17-27! This year’s festival will spotlight 350 events, including the Modernism Show & Sale and the Signature Home Tour. There will be architectural walks, tours of the classic Annenberg estate in Sunnylands, fabulous parties and informative discussions. 1 | Shop till you drop

If there’s one thing you can’t miss, it’s the Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Here you’ll find decor items, artwork, and textiles from the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as the Modern Design Expo, which features homes inspired by classic mid-century modern design. This event is at 10 a.m. from February 19 to 21. Tickets cost $ 30 for admission to both shows, with round-trip entry permitted.

2 | Enjoy a preview!

Beat the crowds before the show opens to the public by attending the Modernism Show & Sale preview night. This event is at 6 p.m. on February 18, and the ticket price of $ 110 benefits Modernism week. Your ticket includes drinks, appetizers, entertainment, and the chance to experience unique furniture and decor.

3 | See an isolated desert gem

The 75th anniversary of the Lautner Compound Twilight Champagne & Nibbles Reception and Tour provides a rare evening opportunity to visit “The Lautner”, which is architect John Lautner’s beautiful desert hideaway. Sip champagne and sample appetizers as owners Tracy Beckmann and Ryan Trowbridge inspire you with stories about their restoration of this architectural oasis. This event takes place at 5:30 p.m. on February 18 and tickets are $ 80.

4 | Explore the vintage trailers

The Modernism Week Vintage Trailer Show will make you want to hit the road for a great adventure! You’ll see an incredible collection of vintage trailers, RVs, buses, and RVs at one of the largest vintage trailer shows in the United States. Meet the owners and custom catering artisans who can tell you the story and journeys of their trailer. This show takes place February 26-27 and costs $ 25.

5 | Cycle of wonders from the middle of the last century

Hot Purple Energy is a local solar energy company that celebrates mid-century architecture. Their self-guided architectural bike ride will take you through several neighborhoods in Palm Springs that are home to mid-century, solar-powered homes. Although this excursion is planned as a group event, you will have the flexibility to explore on your own and at your own pace. This tour takes place February 19-26 and is free. To make matters even better, Palm Springs in February has a perfect weather for outdoor activities like this!

6 | Car junkies unite!

If you’re a vintage car lover, you won’t want to miss the Modernism Week Vintage Car Show on February 21. Over 50 classic cars from the 1950s to 1980s will be on display outside the Palm Springs Convention Center. . So if you go to the Modernism Week Show & Sale this Monday, you can also enjoy the auto show just outside the convention center. Free entry.

7 | Visit an iconic house

A highlight of Modernism week 2022 is his Showcase Home Tour: Casa Terra. Designed by interior designer and TV host Bobby Berk, this 5,000 square foot Spanish-style estate is now a world-class resort-style residence, featuring Berk’s unique touches and design. You will be driven to the property, which is available for tours on select dates February 18-27, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $ 65.

8 | To be inspired

Hear a presentation from one of the many exceptional speakers at Modernism week 2022 who are all experts in their field. The lectures presented include the main presentation: Jeanne Gang, FAIA “Making Architecture” (February 19, $ 45 / $ 65). Other notables include “As I Knew Him, My Dad Rod Serling” (February 22, $ 20), “MAD Architects: Global Work” (February 21, $ 15), “Remodeling Midcentury Modern Marvels With Atomic Ranch’s Jickie Torres” (Feb. 18, $ 12) and “Preserving Los Angeles: A Kaleidoscope Tour of LA’s Built Heritage” (Feb. 19, $ 12).
