The city of Avon is set to launch an e-bike discount for residents who purchase an e-bike after Saturday. Avon City Council initially discussed the implementation of such a program in August to encourage the use of e-bikes.

E-bikes are growing in popularity as community members research other ways to shop, get to work, cut carbon emissions, and exercise.

The city will offer two types of discounts to residents. The $ 200 rebate will be offered to full-time Avon residents who purchase a new electric bike through a local retailer or online with a minimum purchase price of $ 1,000. A $ 100 rebate is also available on used electric bikes with a minimum purchase price of $ 500. There is a limit of one rebate per person and two e-bike rebates per household, whether the e-bikes are new or used. In addition, the electric bicycle should be used to compensate for the mileage of the vehicle.

The e-bike rebate application can be completed on the City of Avon website. Discounts are only available on e-bikes purchased after Saturday, and itemized invoices and receipts for e-bike purchases must be provided. The rebate request and associated receipts must be received no later than 180 days from the date of purchase. Rebate checks will be distributed within four to six weeks of receipt of the completed rebate request.

Discounts are only available to full-time residents of Avon and voter registration or proof of full-time residency is required. The resident must intend to replace trips otherwise made by an automobile by the use of an electric bicycle. There is no discount for recreational use. Discounts may be changed and / or discontinued without notice. Funding is limited. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Currently, Holy Cross Energy is offering a $ 200 rebate for electric bike purchases to customers with a Holy Cross Energy account who offset kilometers traveled. This is its most popular rebate, and in 2020 and so far in 2021, the company has issued over 520 rebates. The Edwards Metropolitan District is also offering an electric bike purchase discount of $ 200 to full-time residents who intend to use the electric bike to offset kilometers traveled with a maximum of two discounts per household.
