Bikes, coffee and youth outreach – the North Minneapolis store has it all under one roof

It’s a bike shop, cafe and hopefully so much more.

Venture North Bikes is the only black-owned business of its kind in North Minneapolis.

Kennis Littleton is the new owner and has reopened the popular boutique which closed during the pandemic. Part of his business plan is to help underprivileged youth in the area.

“The vision and mission is to create a safe place for young people and for cycling enthusiasts to come and enjoy cycling in all its forms,” said Littleton.

All bikes are donated and sold at affordable prices. The shop also raises community funds to provide free programming to disadvantaged youth. The hope is to launch free bike-building programs and mechanic internship programs this spring.

“There’s a lot to do in the bike industry,” Littleton said. “There are jobs to be filled in manufacturing and in the sales process. We want to be a community staple and foundation in North Minneapolis.
