On your marks, ready? Go! Get on your bikes, Canberra, the Big Canberra Bike Ride is back.

Beginning on Sunday, February 27, the annual celebration of cycling in Canberra invites cyclists to register and join the capital’s largest mass race.

Raising funds for the Amy Gillett Foundation, the Big Canberra Bike Ride began in 1999 to promote cycling in Canberra. Starting with just two routes, it is now Canberra’s most iconic cycling event for cyclists of all skills, interests and abilities.

With several routes to choose from (including the 6km Big Family Ride, 17-26km Big Lake Ride, 65km Big Dam Ride, and 116km Big Tidbinbilla Ride), this is a great opportunity to hang out with friends and family to enjoy Canberra’s fresh air and spectacular scenery.

Pedal Power ACT CEO Ian Ross said the event offers cyclists an exhilarating cycling experience in Canberra that is unlike any other.

“The event is such a fun day and we are absolutely delighted to bring it back to 2022. It has been a tough few years but a celebration of cycling gives us all something to look forward to,” he said.

“The Big Family Ride is a great loop for families and new riders. It crosses Commonwealth Avenue Bridged via a closed lane and winds around the lake before returning to the event center – it’s a classic Canberra sampler. We have a series of longer trips for the more adventurous – with distances ranging from 6 km to 116 km.

Departing and arriving at Albert Hall, riders can even enjoy a health and wellness exhibit at the Hub with a range of exhibitors and activities.

According to Ian, the non-competitive event is perfect for families or anyone looking to achieve their personal goals.

“When the kids cross that finish line, they have the biggest smile on their faces for completing what is, for many, the first of a lifetime of outdoor events. They wear their finishing medals with absolute pride. he says.

Register for The Big Canberra Bike Ride before 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 14 to take advantage of discounted rates and bring your family, friends and community to a day they won’t forget.
