Beginning the week of October 4, the City will begin improving the pavement and concrete on 5th Street, from Pole Line Road to L. Street. Traffic lanes and on-street parking.

The City is testing the pilot project to make the 5th Street corridor from East Davis to UC Davis safer for pedestrians and cyclists. The City will add bike lanes along 5th Street from Pole Line Rd to L St, removing one lane of traffic for vehicles. 5th Street is a primary cycle route for people going to UC Davis and downtown.
Some work will be completed during normal business hours (Monday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), while other work will be scheduled for weekends and evenings. Businesses and residents will be informed of this work via door hangers, electronic bulletin boards (already installed) and the City’s social media (Facebook and Nextdoor).

As with most construction projects, there can be impacts on traffic, dust and noise. Construction will result in lane closures, and there will be delays and parking impacts during construction.

Businesses and residents directly affected by the construction zone will receive door hangers 48 hours before construction. If you receive this notification, please ensure that your driveway, sidewalks, curbs and gutters are accessible by the construction dates indicated on the door hanger. Areas that require access will also have signage displayed. The site should be completed in mid-November 2021.
