HACKENSACK, NJ—The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) announced that the Andrea Tilbian Halejian Memorial Fund has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) Eastern USA. The grant will support the organization’s relief projects in Artsakh. The NNJCF, a non-profit organization, focuses on the priority areas of arts, civic engagement, education, environment, public health, and philanthropy.
The Fund remembers Andrea Tilbian Halejian, a resident of Wyckoff, New Jersey, and contributes to qualified charities she has supported. Tilbian Halejian, his family and many of their friends cared about Armenian efforts locally, nationally and internationally. ARS is a member of the United Nations and has affiliates in 27 different countries serving the social, educational, health and welfare efforts of the Armenian people worldwide. The grant will serve the organization’s goals and support Artsakh’s relief projects to address the growing humanitarian crisis in the region. Programs undertaken by ARS Eastern USA are a “Sponsor a Child of a Fallen Hero” and assist families displaced and affected by the 2020 war. Tilbian Halejian was an active member of the community. She was an enthusiastic leader at St. Leon’s Armenian Church in Fair Lawn, NJ, and led programs to include cooking for a community shelter, organizing blood drives twice a year, co-chairing assemblies diocesan meetings, Sunday school teaching and support for Camp Nubar activities. and events. At Wyckoff, she chaired the Coolidge School Cycling Rally, started an arts docent program at Coolidge School, worked with Girl Scouts, contributed to many school programs, and was a strong supporter of athletics. at primary, secondary and university level.
