Hamilton ‘Bike & Walk’ at Daly School Wednesday

The usual warnings to drivers about children on the streets around schools should never be taken lightly. And these reminders to be careful of pedestrians and cyclists of all ages extend to all streets and roads.

To spread this message, May 4th is “Bike and Walk to School Day” and Bike Walk Bitterroot organized a group in Hamilton. On Wednesday morning, May 4, at 7:30 a.m., a group of walkers and cyclists – children and adults – will make the trip from St. Francis Catholic Church on South 5th Street to Daly Elementary School.

The group will travel along residential streets in Hamilton, but will also cross US 93 on its route, so motorists should be aware and use the demonstration as a reminder to be careful behind the wheel.

By the way, May 4th is also similar to the phrase from the movie “May the Force be with you”, from the Star Wars movies. It has been known as Star Wars Day for a number of years now, and walk-and-bike group members are encouraged to wear Star Wars clothing to mark the day.

National Bike Month activities in the Bitterroot Valley.

More activities are planned for National Bike Month in May in the valley. Bike Walk Bitterroot will launch the “Walk and Roll Challenge” from May 10th until the end of the month, where you are encouraged to cover the most miles by bike, foot, board or other non-motorized means of transport on a “regular” basis. Miles accumulated in other competitions will not count. Only things like going to work, “running” an errand or taking a walk in one of our parks will count. There will be weekly prizes. Sign up on the Bike Walk Bitterroot website.

A commuter lunch is scheduled for May 20 at the Hamilton Parklet (which is at 107 South 2nd Street this summer). Free coffee and food from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

The Hamilton Police Department’s “Bike Rodeo” for kids will be held on May 21. More details are forthcoming for this popular annual Hamilton Police event.

And “Sunday Street” will take place on South 4th Street in Hamilton from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 22. The group “Poor Henry” will provide the music. More details on the Bike Walk website.
