How to ensure you get a Vitus 2022 bike, new Rapha & Orbea clothing, Map My Track app for clubs, Pirelli tires now made in Italy, Alba sunglasses and more

It’s time to discover the latest tech stories from the world of cycling – everything from new clothing from Orbea and Rapha to the tire pressures you need to ride the Strade Bianche. However, we start with some valuable information if you want to get your hands on a new Vitus bike this year…

Don’t miss a Vitus…here are the out-of-stock dates you need to know

We all know that many bikes are hard to find right now due to supply chain disruptions. Vitus is therefore doing its best to help you by letting you know exactly when its various models will be available.

We’ve said in review after review that Vitus offers impressive value for money with their bikes.

The ZX-1 Evo, for example, offers “excellent levels of stiffness, impressive handling, real aero benefits and a spec list that defies the price tag.”

Then there’s the Vitesse Evo, Vitus’ lightweight race road bike, which features the brand’s latest one-piece carbon frame. Stu described it as “an absolute belt of a bike” that delivers performance and comfort.

> Both are designed to get on the tarmac quickly, but they have different strengths, so we’ve looked at which would best suit your needs

How to be sure not to miss anything? Well, Vitus does not take any pre-orders but recommends doing a stock alert with one of its exclusive retailers.

Vitus says they don’t want to take your money and keep you waiting for delivery, but want to provide you with as much information as possible so they can make the right purchase decision.

The 2022 stock drops are as follows:

  • Energy Evo – Live
  • Speed Evo – February 2022
  • ZX-1 Evo – February 2022
  • Issuer – March 2022
  • Zenium – March 2022
  • August – April 2022
  • Razor – June 2022

Discover how a professional team prepares their bikes for Strade Bianche

Here’s how the Israel – Premier Tech Pro cycling team modifies their bikes for a race like Strade Bianche (which took place in Italy last Saturday). It all depends on tire width and pressure.

Professional teams are often suspicious – sometimes downright secretive – about tire pressure, so it’s worth having that little insight.

Map My Tracks launches app for clubs

UK-based fitness portal Map My Tracks has launched a new Clubs service which provides cycling clubs with a dedicated app that offers club rides, membership management and group messaging.

Once configured, the web app can be added to your phone’s home screen and would work like a native app downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

“With a club app that can be set up and customized in minutes, this means almost any cycling club can provide their members with a centralized source for rides, routes, messaging and member management,” says Map. MyTracks.

The Clubs app is based on Map My Tracks’ work with its local cycling club, Canterbury Bicycle Club.

“It pulls together all the features that have proven invaluable to them, many of which are based on their experience during Covid lockdown times,” the brand explains. “During each period of confinement, the app became the club’s preferred means of organizing group outings and limiting capacity. It was also a means of keeping everyone up to date with club activities and news.

One of the features is a live map that allows club members to see where everyone might be when taking club rides to ensure everyone stays together and no one gets lost.

Map My Tracks Clubs is free for clubs with up to 30 members; for those over 30 there is a £12 monthly subscription.

Pirelli offers “made in Italy” bicycle tires

Render Pirelli Bollate Plant

The Pirelli factory in Bollate in Italy began producing Pirelli bicycle tires and is said to be the only factory to manufacture “made in Italy” industrial scale bicycle tires.

Opened by Pirelli in 1962, the historic facility is a few miles from Milan and has recently undergone a process of modernization and overhaul to accommodate production of Pirelli’s top-of-the-line lines.

Pirelli says: “The Bollate plant is truly unique in this sector and innovation is present at all levels: not only in process automation, which guarantees very high quality reliability and geometric precision to the product – which is an even more important factor when it comes to a bicycle tire, given its small size and light weight – but also, for example, when it comes to products semi-finished, Pirelli has tested a unique extrusion system here, which also allows absolute geometric and weight precision to be achieved; and finally its compounds, developed with a continuous mixing system.

P Zero Race tires will be the first to hit the market from March, with the full refurbishment of the industrial plant due to be completed in early 2023.
