The rally version of the KTM 390 Adventure seems better equipped to handle a variety of off-road terrains

Prior to the KTM ADV 390’s debut at EICMA 2019, several test mules of different design were spied on. One that was spied on in 2018, seen above, featured a rally-style KTM 390 motorcycle. But when the KTM 390 ADV came along, it didn’t come close to that rally-style test mule at all. But it looks like KTM is gearing up to release a new version of 390 ADV, as a similar test mule, with parts close to production, has now been spied on in India.

KTM 390 ADV New Variant – Rally Model Details

One of the main changes is the higher front part of the bike. The instrument console and handlebars are also mounted higher than those of the standard model. These changes should ensure improved ergonomics, control and balance when riding while standing on the bike.

For better protection against sleet, dirt and flying debris, the bike has been fitted with a large transparent windshield. For better traction in wet and slippery conditions, the bike is fitted with block tires at both ends.

Most of the other features and parts appear to be largely the same as the standard 390 Adventure. It’s possible that the on-board rally version of the 390 Adv’s powertrain will receive a few tweaks to make it more suitable for off-roading.

In this context, it should be noted that the 2022 version of KTM 390 Adv has received updates to its electronics. It has been fitted with two new traction control modes, Street and Offroad. By automatically controlling the degree of rear wheel slip, the modes provide better control and handling.

One of the rally-style test mules can be seen with a rounder, blackened exhaust. This could be made available as an accessory. It’s possible that the rally version of 390 Adventure will get a new color theme to express its tough character. If we are talking about the 2022 390 Adventure, the bike has been unveiled in two new color options.

One is black / orange, which is essentially an all-black theme with contrasting shades of orange on the fuel tank fairing, front fender, and rear section. The second color theme looks much more vibrant, combining black with contrasting pieces of orange, blue, and white.

Engine and specifications KTM 390 Adv

A few days ago, KTM unveiled the 2022 version of the 390 Adventure. The bike benefits from a range of aesthetic and functional improvements. Most of the hardware used for the rally-style KTM 390 Adv will be the same as the standard model. The 390 Adventure is powered by a 373cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine that generates 43hp of maximum power and 37Nm of maximum torque. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Mounted on a steel trellis frame, the 390 Adventure uses WP APEX 43mm USD forks up front and a WP APEX monoshock at the rear. It has 19 inch front wheels and 17 inch rear wheels. The braking system includes a BYBRE 320mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear. Bosch dual-channel ABS is standard.

The rally-style KTM 390 Adventure will likely be more expensive. It will not have a direct rival when it is launched. The standard model is available at a starting price of Rs 3.04 lakh. It mainly competes with the BMW G310GS. More spy photos of the new 390 ADV variant can be seen below, credit to MCN and Cycle World.
