Lester Kevin Absher, 53, of McGrady, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, at Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center. He was born on May 23, 1968 in Toccoa, Georgia to James Ray and Doris Cothren Absher. He loved his family and all his friends. He always had a smile on his face and a friendly word for everyone. Pursuing his dreams of music that he loved, he founded a band called Southern Thunder. He got to play with the Kentucky Head Hunters, Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle. His band and other bands did a lot of veterans benefit concerts, where he performed with Moonshiner Chuck and often performed at the Boone Bike Rally making charitable benefits. His favorite music store was Vintage Corner and he loved collecting video games. He was also a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Roaring River. Kevin was predeceased by his father.
Surviving is his wife, Tammy Felts Absher; son, Kevin Nicholas Absher and girlfriend, Brittany Faith LaRue of North Wilkesboro; his mother, Doris Cothren Absher of Roaring River; siblings, Shannon Comer and spouse, Davis, of North Wilkesboro, Michael Absher and spouse, Terri, of Roaring River, Sherry Evans and spouse, Tony, of Elkin; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Terry Felts; and his sister-in-law, Sandra Money.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Roaring River with Reverend Scott Wagoner, Reverend Danny Bauguess and Reverend Nick Cheek. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Roaring River from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, before the service.
