Mahindra Electric’s electric vehicles have passed the 400 million km mark.

Mahindra Electric announced that its vehicles have traveled 400 million electric kilometers, which is equivalent to saving more than 40,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions. The company also claims that 18.50 lakh of trees would have to be planted on earth to save that much CO2 emissions and the numbers are expected to increase once its new electric vehicles go on sale in the market. Last week, Mahindra & Mahindra released the first teaser of its new range of electric SUVs which will arrive in the latter part of the decade.

Mahindra eXUV300 will go on sale by the end of this fiscal year.

Earlier in 2021, Mahindra announced that it would launch 16 electric vehicles in India by the end of this decade. The company has planned an investment of ₹3,000 crore, and out of these 16 EVs, 8 of them will be electric SUVs. The company also mentioned that of the 8 electric SUVs, 4 in the company’s current portfolio will transition to full electric models, while the rest will be all-new electric SUVs.

The first SUV, however, will be launched as early as next fiscal year and yes, it will be the XUV300 that will make the transition. The XUV300 EV will be launched in the third or fourth quarter of FY23 and will be followed by other new electric vehicles in the pipeline. The eXUV300 was shown at Auto Expo 2020 and we got a glimpse of what the car would look like. In fact, the company said at the time that the electric XUV300 was powered by an electric motor driving the front wheels producing probably 130hp. Power for the motor will be provided by a 40 kWh battery capable of delivering a range of over 300 km on a single charge.
