mangaluru: This technician is in the running for a motocross racing championship | Mangaluru News

Mangaluru: This mechanical engineer quit her job as a business development associate at an education technology company in April to pursue her dream: competitive racing.
During MRF MoGrip FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship 2W 2022 (Ladies Class) event held in Chikkamagaluru last week and Rally De Mangaluru – Round 2 of MRF MoGrip FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship held in Panja, Apoorva Bykadi , 25, won second prize on Sunday. She is confident to give her best in four other events lined up during the year, with a view to winning the overall championship.
During his trip, Apoorva told TOI, “Soon after finishing my engineering course, I did an internship at a central mechanical company in Udupi. school I was missing all outdoor adventures due to 9-5 work. One day I saw the Apache One Make TVS Championship poster on Instagram and decided to participate. In 2019, I didn’t have a bike, yet I showed up for selection without much training and to my surprise I was selected. I was one of the top 15 riders in India. That’s when- there that I realized that if I focused more on the sport, I would definitely perform better.
“There I was competing with women who had put in years of effort. Once back in Mangaluru I started looking for coaches and met Yogish from KAT Racing Garage in Pumpwell, specialized in superbike repair work. I started training with the team and won the INRSC-2019 championship,” she said.
Due to the pandemic, not much was happening on the pitch. Six months ago, she participated in a few rounds of the Indian National Rally Championship and took third position. “My parents Bharathi and BK Narayan were very supportive. Riding the dirt road in Panja was definitely a challenge due to heavy rain, gravel and hairpin curves. My performance probably would have been better without rain. However, I am looking forward to the upcoming competitions,” said Apoorva, who believes there is nothing impossible in life.
A member of the KAT Racing team, she is supported by Motul India. She is a state level basketball and handball player and won a bronze medal at a national Muay Thai event. She is an amateur surfer and a member of the Mangalore Surf Club, Tannirbhavi.
