Peter Sagan will drive this Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7 at the 2021 UCI Road World Championships in Flanders this weekend.
The Tarmac SL7 was released last year and is Specialized’s premium road bike. This particular model was taken from the 2021 Sagan collection.
From a distance the bike looks quite austere, but a close-up view reveals subtle golden highlights on the top tube. The molded badge as seen on the Sagan Specialized Aethos collection has also been installed on the front side of the seat tube.
The triple world champion’s bike is decked out with a full Shimano Dura-Ace 9170 Di2 groupset (we haven’t seen a Dura-Ace 9200 on a pro bike yet).
Sagan’s bike is fitted with aftermarket 14-tooth alloy jockey wheels that feature a narrow and wide profile. Standard Shimano road pulley wheels are made of wear resistant thermoplastic and have a standard tooth profile. The bike is fitted with a standard short Shimano cage.
Peter Sagan has a long-standing relationship with CeramicSpeed, well known for their aftermarket oversized jockey wheels.
The CeramicSpeed âârange includes a set of 14 tooth jockey wheels, although they are officially designed to work with Shimano 12-speed MTB groupsets. While there are no visible markings on the jockey wheels, it seems likely they came from the brand, which we contacted for comment.
Anyone who makes the jockey wheels, Sagan is clearly convinced that there is an advantage to using them over the stock Shimano jockey wheels – perhaps the narrow and wide profile could improve chain retention on paved sections. rough that are part of the course on Saturday? We will update this story once we get confirmation.
The bike is fitted with a Roval Rapide CLX wheelset fitted with 26mm wide Specialized Turbo Cotton tires. It remains to be seen whether Sagan will actually ride clincher tires on his generally preferred tubular tires.
Sagan will move from Bora-Hansgrohe to Team TotalEnergies for the 2022 season, with Specialized following the current Slovak road racing champion in his new team.
