Released on bail, 21-year-old man killed with an ax in Chennai; 3 inmates

CHENNAI: Municipal police on Wednesday arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the murder of a 21-year-old history leafter in Nungambakkam.

History leafter, S Kumar, who was out on bail recently, was attacked by a trio with weapons near Tank Bund road in Nungambakkam on Tuesday night, police said.

Kumar succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening, after which the police turned the case into a murder and arrested three people – T Dhanasekar (26), A Raja (33) and R Parthiban (30).

Investigations revealed that the three men rounded up Kumar as he was near a tea stall around 5 p.m. and attacked him with weapons.

A passerby admitted Kumar to a hospital. Investigations revealed that one of those arrested, Dhanasekar, had a prior feud with the deceased.

Dhanasekar had helped Kumar’s older brother to get an autorickshaw through finance. While the dues were paid on time for the first few months, Kumar’s brother started to disregard the dues after which Dhanasekar warned him that his autorickshaw would be impounded.

Enraged because of this, Kumar inflicted cuts on Dhanasekar, during a temple festival at Pushpa Nagar in Nungambakkam, in May, for which he was arrested.

All three were brought before a magistrate and taken into custody.
