LAKE TAHOE, Nevada – The Rock Tahoe Half Marathon returns to Stateline, Nevada on Saturday, June 18, 2022, after a 2-year absence. With his return he sees new racing ownership with Sam Baugh of Reno Races taking the helm and new title sponsorship by Tahoe Blue Vodka.
The Rock Tahoe Half Marathon continues to offer one of the most breathtaking half marathon courses in the country with spectacular scenery of Tahoe’s East and South Rim’s many treasures including Glenbrook, Logan Shoals, Cave Rock, Round Hill Pines, Nevada Beach and Rabe Meadow as the course winds over 1,000 feet from Spooner Summit to the finish line at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe.
Previously owned by Jason Collin and Jessica Schnoll of Epic Tahoe Adventures, the duo sold the race last fall.
“We launched the inaugural race in 2015 and were amazed by the incredible response from the community and participants from across the country. It quickly became a must-attend annual summer event and it was truly humbling to see so many runners returning year after year,” said Jessica Schnoll.
When Covid hit in 2020, Rock Tahoe switched to virtual racing and restrictions prevented him from returning in 2021. After not having the
event for so long, both partners found other endeavors and realized it was time to pass the beloved event on to a new owner.
“We had worked with Sam before and felt the event [Rock Tahoe] would be in good hands and able to continue for many years to come,” said Jason
“My wife and I have raced Rock Tahoe as participants since the beginning and it has always been one of our favorite events. I am honored and thrilled to be able to add this event to our Reno Races racing portfolio,” said said new owner and race director Sam Baugh.
Riders will still find many of the familiar elements they’ve come to love with Rock Tahoe. Race weekend kicks off with a “Rock the Plaza” package pickup and pre-race display on Friday, June 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Guitar Plaza across from Alpine Union at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. The event is open to the public and will feature booths from both
local and national sponsors. Race day begins early at Spooner Summit on Saturday, June 18 and has two start times: 7:00 a.m. for walkers/joggers and 8:00 a.m. for runners.
With seven aid stations on the course, the event is fully prepared to meet the hydration and nutrition needs of the runners. The aid stations are all hosted by local organizations and also serve as rallying points along the 13.1-mile course.
As runners wrap up their adventure at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, the fun is just beginning with the Finish Line Festival and post-race pool party. The Rock Tahoe Finish Line Festival is open to the public as well as attendees and is a great place to celebrate with runners at the finish line. The festivities begin at 8:00 a.m. and the first finisher of the race is expected around 9:15 a.m. The high energy continues at the Rock Tahoe Post-Race Pool Party with a live performance by the band Daze on the Green! This Bay Area cover band will rock the party all afternoon with all the greatest party dance hits!
This race has sold out every year and is poised to sell out again early. Registration is still open for this year’s race with just under 100 of the more than 2,000 places remaining. Visit runrocktahoe.com for details.
During the race, the lakeside terrain off westbound Highway 50 will be closed from Spooner Summit to the Round Hill Pines Bike Trail. The lane closure will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Kingsbury Grade is strongly recommended as the preferred route for traffic between Carson City and South Lake Tahoe during these hours. Additionally, access to or from perimeter streets and driveways can sometimes be extended. The organizers ask residents and visitors to be careful and vigilant when crossing
the closed lane to enter or exit the freeway.
