Kolkata: The State Election Commission (SEC) has asked Home Secretary BP Gopalika, DGP Manoj Malviya as well as Deputy Ministers and Commissioners of Police where polls will be held on February 12 to ensuring that there was no tampering with CCTV footage in the voting booths.
The panel also asked officials to ensure the safety of candidates and election workers and to ensure that no one is intimidated on the way to the voting booth.
He called on the state government to ensure free and fair polls for the municipalities of Bidhannagar, Chandernagore, Asansol and Siliguri on February 12. The date was postponed for three weeks from January 22 due to the pandemic situation.
The SEC also sought increased vigilance on the roads through walking on the roads and dominating the area. He also called for verification of empty buildings as well as hotels, guesthouses, lodges and wedding halls to stop harboring criminals and stockpiling weapons.
He wanted regular checks on groups of people entering businesses on the eve of the ballot and advised sealing off all boundaries of civic bodies where the ballot would be held. He also banned any gathering of vehicles not authorized by any party and called for the confiscation of the vehicles and said there would be no bike rally either.
