The best practice football games in southern Minnesota for week 4

Mid-season football in high school arrives on the last weekend of September. Magnificent weather should welcome players, fans and cheerleaders. The best zone matches include a top-notch, undefeated squad renewing their rivalry with a longtime nemesis in the conference. Another team is looking to secure their first comeback win of the season, but will be challenged by a top ten team. And how far will the scoreboard go in a confrontation of teams that seem to light up every time they play.

Blooming Prairie (3-0, # 1AA) hosts Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (2-1) in an old Gopher Conference battle. BP leads a 21-game winning streak, the longest active race in the state. Radio coverage will be broadcast on Kat Kountry 105 FM and the Kat Kountry 105 FM app. Kick-off is given on Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Medford (0-3) celebrates coming home with a tough job ahead. Gibbon-Fairfax-Wintrhop (3-0, # 6A) arrives in town. NRHEG (2-1) travels to St. Clair High School to face St. Clair / Mankato Loyola (2-1). Newt (2-1, receiving votes in the AA poll) hosts Pine Island (1-2). Each of these games is Friday.

Owatonna (1-2) hosts Austin (0-3) on Saturday, September 25 at 1 p.m. with the broadcast on AM 1390 KRFO / 94.7 FM and the KRFO app. The teams haven’t played since 2018, when the Huskies clubbed the Packers 63-27. Owatonna has scored 60 or more points in three straight games. But Austin did not come down quietly.

  • 2018 Season: Owatonna 63-27
  • 2017 season: Owatonna 70-36 and 62-41 (sectional heats)
  • 2016 season: Owatonna 49-18 and 58-0 (sectional heats)
  • Season 2015: Owatonna 77-41 …. yes. 77-41!

OHS has won 21 straight games against Austin. The Packers’ last win was 12-10 in the 1998 regular season. Owatonna reciprocated 21-16 in one of the most stunning comebacks in Owatonna’s football history, rallying two goals in the end of the fourth quarter. The Huskies continued to play in the Prep Bowl that year, finishing second. Owatonna holds the overall lead in the series, 54-43-7.
