The sun shines on the British Bike Rally Opener

The unusual sunshine in West Wales for the opening weekend of the 2022 ACU Rally Bike Championship was well received by competitors and stewards. Held at DDBC’s usual Brynllewelyn Farm venue, the season kicked off with the first and second rounds of this popular championship. The club works hard with Natural Resources Wales, landowners and other forest users to maximize enjoyment while minimizing risk and inconvenience.

On day one overall, Tom James on the MotoFit Yamaha 250 led the way, second being Dominic Wilson and third to Wynne Pickersgill. In the Rallye 1 category, Harry Evans took victory. In the trail class T1 was won by Thomas Herring, T2 by David Nellis and in the big bike class Lee Salt won group T3.

For day two the general was led by Forest of Dean runner Arran Wells, who won by over a minute over Rob Breakwell with Wynne Pickersgill again taking third place. Osian Jones led the way in Rally 1, and in the Trail class, Herring once again led the class. David Nellis was again the Trail 2 winner and Shaun Atkinson won the big bike class, despite Lee Salt testing 1 times faster.

Registrations for the event sold out quickly, suggesting that riders are keen to get out on the horseback – a good start from the DDBC club.
