Expressing active support for Bharat Bandh called by farmers’ organizations demanding the repeal of three “anti-farm” laws enacted by the Union government, Congress Party leaders Sharan Prakash Patil, BR Patil, MY Patil and Jagdev Guttedar said their party activists join in the unrest scheduled for Monday by holding a large bicycle rally in Kalaburagi.
Addressing a press conference at the local party office here on Sunday, they said the rally would start from their party office at 9 a.m. and pass through SVP Circle, Bus Stand, Supermarket, Sedam Road, Aland Road, Nehru Gunj , Jewargi Road and other major city streets.
âFarmers had not called for changes to the APMC, contract farming and essential commodities laws. No parliamentarian has demanded them in Parliament. Yet the BJP government unilaterally imposed them on the farming community despite strong resistance from the latter. Thousands of farmers have been in indefinite agitation at the Delhi border for several months to oppose these anti-farmer laws and the Modi government will implement the laws to serve their business leaders and satisfy its ego. The BJP acts as a slave to big business which scarifies the interests of farmers. If the agricultural sector collapses, the entire nation will collapse. The enactment and implementation of laws against the will of farmers is an injustice not only to farmers, but to Indian 130 crores. The Union government should stop acting as an agent for corporate giants like Ambani and Adani and come forward to protect the interests of ordinary people, âsaid Mr. BR Patil.
Referring to the BJP’s promises made in the manifesto during Lok Sabha’s last election, Mr. Sharan Prakash Patil said the BJP has not implemented the MS Swaminathan panel as promised to get farmers out of the crisis, but took action that would deepen the farm. crisis and the woes of farmers simply to help businesses in the agricultural sector. âThe BJP government has betrayed farmers by breaking its election promise to implement the MS Swaminathan report. He introduced the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, saying the insurance program would protect farmers against crop losses. But, in reality, it is a program that was introduced to deceive farmers and allow insurance companies to make a fortune, âhe said.
