Winchester man killed in motorcycle accident on New Circle Road

A 47-year-old Winchester man died in an accident on New Circle Road on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fayette County coroner.

Larry Spicer died in hospital around 3:15 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

Police closed a section of New Circle Road while they investigated the incident, which happened around 1 p.m. on the inner loop between Bryan Avenue and Meadow Lane, according to the traffic management centre.

Spicer was riding his motorcycle in the emergency lane trying to steer clear of traffic, police said. At the same time, a vehicle pulled out of an adjacent parking lot and failed to see the motorcycle, causing the collision.

Spicer was not wearing a helmet, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on charges unrelated to the crash, police said.

Police are investigating the crash site and will close the area until further notice.
