My party had a blast with this, and yours will, too
I’m an absolute sucker for a heist. They’re probably my favorite thing to do in Dungeons & Dragons, to the point where even if the Dungeon Master isn’t setting my party up for a heist, I’m gonna orchestrate one. If you’re like me, you’ll definitely want to check out Keys from the Golden Vault, which is currently 56% off for Amazon Prime Day, alongside tons of other great D&D deals.
On sale for $21.99 (was $49.95), the collection includes 13 one-shot adventures, each of which will see your party (at least attempt to) pull off a single heist. All the adventures come with their own unique twist, but are tied together by the secret organization, the Golden Vault, that hires you for every job.
The Keys from the Golden Vault one-shots are built for four to six players, with adventures designed for characters spanning levels one through 11. The book also comes with maps for DMs and players, which can make a huge difference for your party if they decide to split up.
What makes Keys from the Golden Vault such a great addition to your collection is that it provides a perfect entry point for D&D beginners without sacrificing any fun for more experienced players. When I played the Reach for the Stars one-shot (one of Polygon’s favorites from the collection), our party included a mix of my regular party members and people who barely understood what D&D was before sitting at the table. The heist format made it particularly easy for these newcomers to slip right into the game thanks to:
- Having a simple goal: to search a house to retrieve a book
- The way it played into classic horror tropes: Do you split up? Do you stick together)
- Players already having an understanding of character archetypes they could play off, even without familiarity with D&D classes: Are you the muscle? The loose cannon? Or maybe someone who just likes to blow shit up?
Plus, just speaking logistically, having a lot of one-shot options on hand makes it so much easier to schedule sessions and switch up who’s playing depending on availability.
So if you’re in the mood to commit elaborate robbery and enjoy general shenanigans, you won’t find anything better than a D&D heist — except 13 D&D heists, of course.
